project at RCR Architects client: Municipality of Olot location: Olot, Spain year: 2012
The project converts the abandoned space under the walls of an extinct volcano into a place of embodied topographical knowledge, where groups of students gather to study the volcanic sedimentation. The intervention aims to be as subtle as possible, to emphasize the sublime value of this geological wall. In this place sitting places for visitor groups are carved out from the ground as engravings in a carpet of stones. Those low walls are made by concrete mixed with local volcanic stone.
