A New Material Vocabulary

Cast Soils

A collection of materials from the world of horticulture and farming is reinterpreted for the installation. Salt blocks, for animals to lick, hemp and charcoal, storing CO2 and improving soil quality, expanded clay, increasing the drainage of terrains, and lime in small quantities, the binding agent of the new composites. Spices are used for colouring, in place of mineral based pigments, towards mixtures which are themselves forms of soil, and that may be farmed, transformed, cultivated.
